MidSummer Event
The holiday originated as a pagan celebration to welcome the summer season and ensure a successful harvest. It may have been associated with local gods, such as Ukko, the Finnish god of thunder who controlled the rain and thus the fertility of the land.Today, Midsummer is about celebrating that the best time of the year lies ahead of us. With roots in pagan times, Midsummer is a celebration of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, but it is also a celebration of life and love. Traditions include singing and dancing on Midsummer Eve, jumping over bonfires, searching for the magic fern flower at midnight, and washing the face with morning dew to greet the midsummer sun.
